Toronto Rocks with YA/MG Authors!
Do you have any idea how many kidlit authors live in the Toronto area?
Well, before last Monday, I didn’t either. But it turns out, there are a whole bunch of us! I know this because Claudia Osmond (author of the newly released ‘Smudge’s Mark’) recently rounded us up for a night drinks, chit-chat, and shop-talk at a pub in Toronto.
Here are some pics from that night (sadly, my camera was low on batteries so there’s only 3). Lots of names you probably already know and others to watch for in the very near future.
Adrienne Kress, Lesley Livingston, Stacy King, Megan Crewe, Debbie Ohi, Helene Boudreau, Mahtab Narsimhan, Claudia Osmond, Marina Cohen, Cheryl Rainfield, Nelsa Roberto, and our lone guy - Andrew Tolson.
Oh, yeah…and me.
Here’s to Toronto Kid Lit authors!!!

It was a fabulous night! I feel so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to meet you all. Go T.O.!!
Thanks so much for posting these pics, Deborah! It was wonderful meeting you. Also, so glad to hear your mom’s home for Thanksgiving!
I loved meeting you, and all the writers that night! There are a lot of us children’s/YA writers on Twitter! I’m really looking forward to getting together again.
And, do you know about CANSCAIP? You can meet a ton of Toronto-area children’s and YA writers there, too. It’s a great community.
I think this gathering of Toronto-area children’s and YA writers is fantastic!
I’m an avid reader of both children’s and YA literature and I am from the area as well.
I have already read Smudge’s Mark by Claudia Osmond and loved it! Can’t wait to read the books of some of the other authors mentioned here.
Hooray for awesome Canadian writers!
Thanks Cheryl! And yes, I am a CANSCAIP member too — it’s a fabulous organization and a great way to stay connected to others in the ‘biz’.
Thanks, Sara! There was so much talent at that table, but the people behind the books were really friendly and genuinly nice. Hope you enjoy making your way through those titles…I know I plan to.
Thanks, Debbie! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving too.
Thanks, Nelsa! I agree…go T.O.!!!
